Doha : Popular Rental locations for expat to live in
For an Expat, deciding on where to live largely depends on a couple of things – the sector/industry that you work for, family size and annual income. Most of the expats working for blue collared jobs are from the Asian subcontinent and almost 98% live in the Industrial Area or its surroundings.
For the European and the white collared expat community, here are some of the most popular rental locations in Doha:
West Bay – Since more of the embassies are in this area, there is quite a bit of diplomatic presence in West Bay. Options range from family friendly airy villas, gated communities to 3-5 bhk apartments. Traffic isn’t very high here as compared to rest of the residential areas.
The Pearl – Sea facing villas, ocean view apartments and condos obviously come at a price. The Pearl is a preferred choice of the trendy, well heeled , high income group of expats, because the rentals and maintenance is high.
Al Dafna – with the added advantage of it being a seaside neighbourhood, Al Dafna is the choice of many expats who would like to be near the sea as well as their workplace. Also known for its towering skyscrapers, its become the new business hub as well as the downtown district in the city.
Al Saad - Known for the Al Saad Sports complex, this area is popular with expats because a lot of supermarkets and malls ( Centrepoint Mall, Lulu Centre) are close by and so is the Al Rumailah Hospital.
Old Airport Area
Old Airport Area - This residential district stands in the place where the old aiport of Doha was, before Doha International Aiport came into existence. Residences here cater more to the middle to high income expats who are looking for spacious villas for their family and kids.
Al Gharaffa – Its proximity to Doha City Centre and Education City makes it a popular choice for expats who have school-going children. The area is close to the Doha Expressway and is serviced by many nearby malls like the Landmark Mall. Here too, accommodation options range from Arabic-style villas, stand alone villas or apartment blocks.
Al Waab - One of the most posh areas popular with families and specially expats, Al Waab offers easy access to the main routes and is in close proximity to the Villaggio Mall and Aspire Park. Living space is available in plenty. Traffic is mainly related to school sessions. Most families moving in to Al Waab look for accommodation in compounds, which are available either as semi-furnished or fully furnished villas and apartments
