Shopping Destinations in Qatar

Qatar is probably the best shopping destination in the Middle East, where luxury brands and high street names equally entice the well-heeled customers. There is something for everyone.

Amongst the popular ones are :

Souq Waqif

For anyone visiting Qatar for the first time, it is almost customary to spend a leisurely day at the Souq Waqif. With an architecture that deliberately leans towards keeping with the authentic Middle Eastern culture, the souq is designed to resemble the original, rustic wood-and-bamboo cluster of shops of the early Bedouin traders. What greet you before you even enter the souq are the smells and sounds of Arabia. Wafting, intermingled with floating aromas of a cup of ‘karak’ is the rich smell of dried and fresh spices and not to miss, sheesha.

The Souq is famous for its open-air cafes and restaurants, souvenir/gift shops, clothes and the usual knick-knacks. There’s even a fairly large space dedicated to a pet market within the souq. Given the number of boutique hotels that dot its periphery, many tourists prefer to stay near the Souq and walk around exploring new corners of the Souq in the evenings.
